Positive Head CT Scan??

What does a positive head CT scan mean? im completely ignorant to all this so if anybody could help then it would be great. At the moment my 73 year old grandma has been told that her head CT scan was positive.

what are some concerns? is this life threatening? is there any hope for the future?

sorry about those details i left out. at the time we know that it was like a clot in her brain and the doctor did a CT scan for her and it was positive. does this help at all?

Need to know why they were scanning her.Positive means they found whatever it was they were looking for.Ex. positive for hemmorage, cancer, stroke, atropy etc....

Positive means the scan is not completely normal BUT.....having a positive scan does not necessarily mean that it is something "bad". A positive CT can mean findings of the scan "fit" with whatever symptom prompted the scan.

Findings can be anything from something as mild as sinusitis to a benign (non cancer) brain tumor to evidence of a stroke to more serious things.

I suspect that her doctor may order an MRI of the brain - it is more sensitive than a CT scan and will give more information. She may also be referred to a specialist, neurology or neurosurgery - depending on the finding.

Hang in there and be sure to ask questions so you understand the information given to you and can use that to help make good decisions with your Grandma. Good luck to you and your family.

**EDITED** above and below after your extra info:
If the aneurysm HAS NOT ruptured - she'll be referred to a neurosurgeon and an MRI/MRA and/or an angiogram will be recommended. Treatment will depend on her age and health and the size of the aneurysm. Some can be "coiled" (a procedure in radiology) and others "clipped" (major surgery but sometimes the only option) to keep them from rupturing.
If it has ruptured - these things happened urgently.

Good luck - email me if more info would help.

Positive? Positive for what? What were they looking for? A tumor? What? Your grandmother has to ask her doctor. If she is not able---then a family member would have to talk to the doctor for her.

wat r the symptoms n signs of yur grand ma ? if u can tell that then i can tell u wat the result means .

it could be positive for anything. Brain tumor, hydrocephalus, etc. So, no one can tell unless you know what it is positive for.

Positive means they found whatever the Doctor was looking for, so it depends on what it is. I would guess that in an older person they would be looking for evidence of a stroke or blood flow patterns that are not normal. Chances are good its not a life threatening thing. If it were serious they would hold her over in the hospital waiting for the results.

being this old it could be a number of things they were testing for a few could be stroke, tumor, alzhiemers, blood clot, anureism(sp) so ask the doctor and he will tell you but i am assuming there has been an on going condition for them to have needed this test it could or could not be life threatening and there is hope for the future b/c anytime you have left with her should be precious because people do not live forever just be glad if it is something treatable them may have caught it in time to do something for her best of luck and godspeed

Please this is not the place for your answer. Call the Dr. immediately. positive means yes.
