Hi, can anyone give me advice on cfs-chronic fatigue syndrome please, Im sick of suffereing! Thank-u?

Had the illness for 10years and am only 36, it has changed my life dramatically! Unable to work, socialize, pursue a relationship amongst other things! Tried every health product, read lots of books, tried so many different things to get well! I do know alot about cfs and attend a support group monthly. I am at the stage again where I am fed up! Changed diet & exercise, nothing is working, pace myself. Know heaps about the condition but I seem to be deterioating and if worse comes to worse will have to enter a nursing home and give up my independance which is the last thing I want. Hopefully someone out there can help me somehow as Ive tried doctors, alternative medicines, vitamins, yoga, diet, lifestyle! You name it, lve tried it and am sick to death of wasting my time when there is no improvement. Counselling is good for some but as soon as the london scientist come up with a blood test to diaganose it and medication to treat it - I just have to hang in there, like everyone else!!T.C

Hey so sorry you are having such a hell time!! i have CFS too for about 5 years. i am able to work though - but not much else! was only able to work 3 days and then read some of Patrick Holford books and followed them over time and managed to work 5 days a week. its a struggle though. ideally i prefer to do less!! anyway sounds like you have done all of that over and over as we all do. the only other things i can recommend are tricyclic antidepressants (they help with chronic illness) and multiminerals. i do swear by a really good multimineral. o also i did see a kinesiologist chiroprctor and he was extremely helpful!!!
All the best take care and dont despair!

Thanks for your response. youve made my day. hope you get some respite. i find im always trying to find a way to get better and then i have remind myself to let go and just be for a little while. maybe thats just where you are at and thats a good place for you at the moment. take care. Report It

grr chainsaw's comments made me angry! CFS is NOT all in your head! if it was, why would so many of us be sick? honestly. i've been to a psychiatrist and he said i was ridiculously well adjusted and mentally great. so how could it all be in my head?.
have you seen a CFS specialist? Report It

SLEEP. Is the most important element with out that NOTHING else works. Melatonin can help if you don't have a normal sleep pattern. Calcium and vitamins are also important you need to balance your body, you can just do it for a little while and stop it needs to be a life style PERMANENT change.

medications will mess up your system for life, tha's an expensive quick fx that will cause far more problems!

I'm not someone who can answer you something exactly...but do you have kids? a husband? that should occupy all your time...when you have a child or a husband, you actually live for them ;)...if you don't, try and visit orphan kid...and go out with one, two or 3 of them...do something that it's not imposed by docotors, something that makes you feel useful...:*:* kiss you...hope you will be better ;)

Sorry to hear about your hard time. I have a couple thoughts on this.
1. If you do have to go into a home, pick it with care - you do not want to be at the mercy of incompetent or worse unkind people.
2. A friend has this too & at worst times has seriously contemplated suicide - you may need support right now.
As for some of the specifics, you've probably heard them all, but here goes:
-become vegan
-no caffeine
-try a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure machine in case the cfs is being exacerbated by sleep apnea)
-stop smoking/being around smoke
-exercise 30 min a day (can be 5 min 6 times a day or however)
-get checked for allergies - environmental & food (same reason as cpap/sleep apnea)
-take vitamin B (12, I think) shots
-get out into the sun
My friend follows all these and still struggles with cfs, but she swears that it was worse when she didn't.
Anyway, I wish you all the best of health.

Here is the very best advice you will ever receive. Go see a psychiatrist. You are most likely depressed. They can prescribe antidepressants that will make you feel like your old self again. Chronic fatigue syndrome is just another name for depression.
