Restless leg, CFS, FMS?

At the moment I have a lot of symptoms. My last doctor put me on Elavil as I have fatigue and chronic body pain. They believe I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Over the last few months when I'm lying in bed I have this need to move my legs. I can't help it or stop it, they just twitch and spasm almost. It happens 2 or 3 nights a week and those nights I never get any sleep. I wake up in a lot of pain.

Does this sound like Restless Leg Syndrome? Is there a correlation between RLS and Chronic Fatigue and Fibro?

Thanks.

Hi, Wabby! Restless leg syndrome does overlap with Fibromyalgia (see link below). There is a new drug out in the US called Requip - actually it's not all that new; it's been out for a couple years. The generic name is ropinirole hcl. Check with the pharmacist near you to see if this drug or a similar one is available in New Zealand. I have problems with RLS, but not on a regular enough basis to take another medication. I agree with the responder who noted that taking calcium close to bed time can help you sleep. I haven't seen any information about it helping with RLS, but if it helps you get to sleep faster, then you might not notice your legs moving around! I have been taking the supplement GABA at night and it seems to help me with sleep. I think it's one of those things that may work for some people and may not work for others. Also see the site endfatigue.com (I'm including a direct link to the treatment protocol below). Scroll down the page until you hit the section called Sleeping Aids for Fibromyalgia. Nothing there about RLS, but some good suggestions nonetheless.

It could be go to webmd and put in RLS and if you are diagnosed with it ask about Colopin a muscle relaxer!

Well, I get the RLS but never the pains so there is a correlation because the RLS I just have to move my legs a lot lol

To me it sounds like it is. I have had RLS before and it is miserable. So, I was put on Requip and it went away. You could have side effects from a medication you are on. Ask your doctor if he/she thinks this might be the problem.

Probably, i have the same thing, except i don't get that much pain, i just can't sleep in peace, i have to move around every so often. And i get this pain on my left knee that like strikes or something and it get worse when it gets cold, i haven't seen a doctor yet so am not sure if its arthritis or RLS, and am only 21 so i don't know if its normal to get arthritis at this age.

I was having the same symptoms at night to, never went for the sleep test for the actual diagnosis.
It could a combanation of RLS,Fibro and CFS.

This helped me, Add more calcium to your diet, or a calcium suppliment. It was suggested to me by my dr.

I use to take it daily which stoped the RLS, and have since went off the suppliment and just make sure i take in alot of calcium from my food. If my legs start to do the twitching before i go to bed. i know i am in for a rough night. so i take a heating pad with me and pop a tums (with extra calcium), if i have pain in the night i will take some advil.

good luck hope i helped you some.

Yes, i saw a commerical about it. There's some medication for this but I doubt you want to be put on any More medication
