Are excessive cat-scans or mri's harmful in general, and if i have coronary stents?

What is an acceptable amount of procedures and what is harmful

MRI has no maximum dose. MRI does not use ionizing radiation. There is no known side effects to being subjected to the static and or alternating magnetic fields which occur during and MRI exam. It is OK to have an MRI if you have cardiac stents as long as the stents have been placed at least 8 weeks ago. It takes that long for the stents to become Incorporated into the wall of the lumen of the vessel.

CT uses ionizing radiation which has a maximum permissible dose. The amount of radiation one absorbs during a routine CT in minimal. Over time a person can be subjected to too much radiation, however this is more likely for health-care workers such as CT Technologists and not patients. If you are concerned, inform your doctor that you would like to minimize the amount or radiation you are receiving and perhaps MRI would be more appropriate.

I know these things because I am an MRI and CT Technologist.
