Cat Scans - what do you do if you can't lie on your back? |
My Mom is going in for one on Tuesday and can't lie on her back for long. She has pneumonia and the pain pills will run out tomorrow. Should I be calling them and asking what we should be doing? She needs the scan! Any ideas? call and tell them about you mother's condition and ask them to have enough pain meds to keep her comfortable. i hope your mother's CAT scan goes well and that she gets better soon Don't worry, they will take care of things at the scanning place. It doesn't take that long. i would call just to make sure... lay on your stomach... jk call the people and tell them they will know what to do Most Cat Scans take 10-20 mins from the time the patient is lying on the table to the time the scan is complete. Most places have sponges that can be placed under the legs and pillows that can be placed under the head to reduce the stress on the chest and back areas. During the scan your mother would need to stay as still as possible and follow the breathing instructions that the machine will give her to the best of her ability. Worst case senerio, they can scan your mother on her belly but the scan will not be as good as if it was done on her back. I would suggest calling her physician and trying to get a refill of her pain medicine tomorrow. I hope everything goes well for your mother. I had a scan, and l have bad back, ring the hospital beforehand-or whoever she is under (Dr) and ask if she can have a relaxer?, explain her problems, some doctors will, some wont, Me, l take my own, 1 diazepan , just enough to keep me still, yes she Must lay on her back. Tell her to keep her eyes shut , and think of a nice memory- time will pass faster... Good luck, any help E Mail me.Love Jo xx hi call them and see if she can lie on her front good luck hugs |
