How much radiation is there in cat scans? |
I've been referred to get one for my sinus headaches and I'm anxious to do so because of the radiation. Any suggestions? "The effective radiation dose from this procedure is about 0.6 mSv, which is about the same as the average person receives from background radiation in two months." I can't tell you specifically how much radiation, but I can tell you that it 's not enough to wrorry about. I've had at least 5 cat scans (Which btw aren't scary at all), and no one was ever concerned with how many I've had before. So don't stress about it. I hope you get your sinus problems fixed up. Good luck!! :) here try this ,, call your local hospital and talk to tech in radiology,,and see if they know,,, The effective radiation delivered is 10 mSv, equal to the amount of "background" radiation a person would receive in about three years. If not being studied, the abdomen and pelvis are protected with a lead apron. A small risk of allergic reaction to iodine (used as a contrast material) exists, but imaging centers are equipped to deal with it. |
