Has anyone ever had a cat-scan showing a sinus infection but yet you had no pain?

My 5 year old son's doctor said his left side is completely blocked and the right side is half blocked. His only symptom is a cough. She prescribed him Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium (all one bottle). Past meds for the cough we have been trying to treat for 4 months now are Zyrtec, Qvar, Singulair, some kind of liquid steroid he took for 3 days, Allbuterol and the last time was a pink antiobiotic he took for 3 days but I can't remember the name. NOTHING has helped the cough which is why she did the cat scan. I just can't see him having this bad of a sinus infection with absolutely no pain. His cough is dry and non productive...sounds deep. Excuse the mis-spelled words please, I'm tired and don't feel like checking them.

I have had many sinus infections in my life and I have never had pain with any of them. I sometimes though get occasional sinus headaches, or pressure behind my eyes and or teeth, but not pain. Probably because our sinuses are cavities (empty spaces). My children too have had sinus infections, and experienced pressure or headaches, but not pain. Your son's cough could be due to drainage even though it sounds dry and non-productive, but it could also be from all the antihistamines he's on, he could be dried out. My kids doctors have always said for sinus cavities they needed to be on an antibiotic for up to 21 days, because those types of infections are harder to clear up due to there reclusive location. The cough sounds deep because he coughs so much, plus the meds he's on could be aggravating instead of helping. My daughter coughed more when on meds than when off. She didn't do well on zyrtec, or singular, she didn't try Qvar. Try a postnasal drip cough drop. If it works then his cough is more than likely due to drainage, and if not you may need to try a new med like a nasal spray, and perhaps discontinue oral meds. My kids both do flonase nasal spray to help with allergies. It doesn't stop all allergens but it helps. It is so hard to know what to do. I always overreacted and had my children on every medicine possible. Now I regret it because looking back I think a lot of the medicines aggravated the situation more than they helped, but I over treated because I was afraid if I didn't my daughter would once again end up in a hospital, which she did for asthma quite often. Anyway, I hope I haven't made it worse for you. It can be so draining when our kids are sick. Good luck, and I hope your son gets to feeling better real soon. Hugs.

Seems to me a catscan would have been helpful a while ago...He has been on so much stuff it is masking some of the symptoms...although why he is still infected is beyond me...Make sure you give him all the antibiotic no matter whether you think it is working or not...taking them and not finishing them is why we now have things out there that are antibiotic resistant...are you running a vaporizer in his room for moisture and giving him lots of water to drink ?? If all that mucus is thick he is dehydrated on top of everything else...it has to thin out to go away...poor baby and the boy too...good luck.

I had a very very bad sinus infection and didn't have any pain. It was just a bad cough and my throat was constantly itching. Anyway, Amoxicillin didn't work for me, infact, I broke out in hives. They gave me a 5-day pill thing. I wish I could find it, it started w/ a Z, but you took one every day and the last day, it's like a huge pink pill and it worked. 2 weeks later I thought it came back, but it was something similar that cleared up in a week. You should try some Benadryl or something in a pill form because the liquids just don't work in that case. Hope he gets well soon!
