Two head CT scans...?

Last year in March I had a CAT scan of the head. This year in April I had a second CAT scan of the head. (For the second one the technician did not cover me with a protective apron.)

In addition, multiple bite-wing x-rays and a couple of panorexes for dental work.

Like most people who get CT scans, I am worried about radiation risks. I would appreciate any response to this effect, particularly from a radiology professional.

Also, I would appreciate some direction as to how much is too much.

normally for a ct you shouldn't have to wear an apronunless you are pregnant. the exposure from a few ct scans and some dental xrays is minimal. think abou the people who do the scans and are exposed to small amounts daily for life. unless you have a serious accident where you shatter every bone in your body and are exposed to muliple xrays multiple times the exposure is not likely to cause damage. technologists have to wear small badges that monitor the amount they are exposed to daily to make sure they don't get too much

I'm not a Rad Tech but I know that the exposure you had was limited. The Rad Tech is far more at risk for side effects than any of the patients. You really have nothing to worry about.

There are medications to reduce the effects on the kidneys from the diagnostic injection used in CT scans. It must be taken one day prior to exposure and for two days afterwords. In your case, you should discuss the concerns with a qualified radiologist.

No you don't have to drink it, only with a Cat scan. You will have to hold your breath when they say to but it really isn't all that bad of a test. Good Luck with the results.
