What is a doctor looking for when he orders a CAT scan?

I'm interested in finding out what a CAT scan would diagose.

Can your update your question and tell us what type of CT scan?

Brain?
Abdominal?
Spine?
Pelvis?

I would be happy to give you some ideas....

It's kind of intermediate, between xrays and MRI. Xrays are best at bone problems because they pick up the hard parts of the body.

CAT scans are xray based but with a computer controlling the scanner they can pick up alot more detail, including some of the soft parts of the body.

The MRI's specialty is soft parts of the body.

So depending on your complaint to the doctor he is looking to see if there is anything abnormal. If you complained about belly pain he'd be looking for blockages, for example.
