I had CABG on 2nd October, 2006. Neither Daibetic nor have B. P. What precautions should be taken now.?

Some times I have a high pulse rate (around 100), and have started taking 45 minutes walk in the morning and in the evening. What diet/precautions are now necessary?

Low sodium, low fat/cholesterol diet. No cafeinne . No smoking. Alcohol only in moderation. Continue daily walks slowly. You are still in recovery phase. Gradually increase exercise to 1 hour etc, I am a cardiac nurse and I must tell you most hospitals offer a cardiac rehab program. I am not sure why yours did not. Verapamil is not as widely used, too many side effects. You need a beta blocker, to lower heart rate, improve pumping of heart and lower risk for more cardiac problems. Talk to your doctor. Eat low fat foods, no double cheeseburgers, people who have had 1 Carotid Artery bypass surgery are likely to need another.

Cut out dairy products and red meat, remembering pork is a red meat. Don't smoke. alcohol in moderation and this may sound strange, do not allow yourself to get cold. (weather wise)
Plenty of walking but no heavy weight lifting.
Verapamil will stabilise the heart beat.

I work in Cardiac Rehabilitation and highly recommend it. They'll give you tons of education regarding what to do and what not to do.
