Ovarian cyst and 5th C-section? |
Hey guys my parents just told me my mom has a large ovarian cyst. She is like 48 I think. We don't know if its cancerous or not yet. She will have to get it removed either way though. She had 3 C-sections (one for each time me/my brothers were born) and then had a fourth c-section when she got a hysterectomy. If she gets this surgery, you could call it as being her fifth C-section. What will be the consequences of this? Any help would be appreciated guys. I dont want to ask my parents about it because they probably don't want to constantly be reminded of the worries A caesarian section is a procedure that delivers a child via an abdominal incision, and the opening into the uterus is sewn up afterwards. It is not the method used to do a hysterectomy though. That is simply a hysterectomy, but most often that procedure is done vaginally- not through an incision in the abdomen. If your mother has surgery to remove the ovary, they will likely reopen the old scar. It would still not be a c-section, because her uterus is gone. She will recover from this surgery like she does most of the other surgeries. She will be incredibly sore, and probably easily tired out for a month or so afterwards. IF they opt to remove both ovaries, she will immediately be in surgically induced menopause. That may mean some hormonal adjustments for her, and she may need to have some hormone replacement therapy while things heal and she evens out again. Menopause itself is a natural state for women over a certain age, and is as much mental adaption as it is physical. The physical side of things is not as much to adapt to as the mental side of it- the idea that you are not a young chicken anymore, and other issues that will primarily be between your mom and dad. Otherwise, the surgery won't have much effect except she will not have the discomfort of the ovarian cyst anymore. If you said to somebody that your mother has had 5 c-sections, they will be expecting to see 5 children as a result. It's much more accurate to say she has had 3 c-sections, a hysterectomy and an oophorectomy (or ovary removal)either bilateral (if they take both) or left/right side. She's had 4 or 5 abdominal surgeries, depending on how the hysterectomy was actually done. Hope this clears matters for you. Your mom should do just fine with the surgery. If she can have that many c-sections and keep up with all of you, she deserves a bit of rest up after this is over with. Just be a little extra helpful and understanding when she comes home. I'm sure she'll appreciate that. |
