Bleeding after C-Section (Kinda Gross, just warning you)?

I had my emergency c-section a week ago and lost a lot of blood...had to have a transfusion. I was told I would bleed for weeks after the operation, and it would be the same amount as a period. I've been bleeding to where I only see either a streak or clot in the toilet and some on the paper or maybe small "gushes" when I stand up from sitting. It goes from bright red to pink. I've been having cramps that feel like menstrual cramps and a little bit of a painful "pulling" feeling near my incision when I stand up sometimes (but I'm not pushing myself too hard or anything...taking it easy). I have docs that blow me off constantly, so it's difficult to ask them questions (I'm looking for a new one now), which is why I'm asking here. Has anyone had the same thing? Is this a normal amount of bleeding and is the rest normal? It doesn't seem excessively heavy, but I wouldn't know...this is my first.

what you are experiencing is normal postpartum bleeding...
http://www.pregnancy.org/article.php?sid... will describe the recovery for you. Just be careful picking up things; nothing heavier than the baby, keep your posture good (don't slump over...when you give in to the pain, it will be even harder to straighten up later), drink plenty of fluids and take it easy in general. Good luck.

it seems good to me, you are lucky even, some women bleed a LOT after emergency C-sections.

i dont think you have anything to worry about. just keep an eye out for signs of infection, like a fever over 101 degrees F, severe headaches, nausea/vomiting, dizzy/lightheaded or any loss of conscious. or if you see any sort of discharge from your vagina or the opening on your stomach, or if the incision turns red or gets inflamed.

if you start bleeding to the point where you ahve to change your pad more than once every two hours, that is a sign of internal hemmorrage (spelling?), and you need to go to the ER immediately.

i hope this helps you,and i hope you are feeling better soon.
enjoy your beautiful new baby!

what you describe is pretty much what i remember with
the wife and was pretty much normal for a C-section. but
that's been many years ago, and unfortunatly, the wife
isn't here right now to get the straight poop.

Both my kids were c-section. I bleed kinda heavy and alot of clotting first few days then it was pretty lite for bout a month. It's very normal.I had cramps and stuff like that too its from your body settling you just had your insides took out then put back in you'll feel alot of differnt pains.

The pulling sensation you feel is normal the scar tissue is knitting together. The pink/reddish blood is also normal, but watch out for any infection...the midwife should be checking this. Do not feel scared to ask questions about how you feel. Resting is not a bad thing after all a C-Section is a major operation.

When laying down do foot exercises...rotate your feet clockwise and anticlockwise this helps with circulation. Congratulations on the birth or your child.

Sweetie, you are doing just fine. I have had 3 C-sections, one of which was emergency. All that you are feeling is normal. You may or may not bleed for the entire 6 weeks. It is kind of like an out of whack on-going period. If you start bleeding extremely heavy, seeing thick clots often...get checked right away to be sure you are not hemorrhaging. Other than that, keep taking it easy and enjoying your baby! Congratulations!
