Gastric Bypass surgery with insurance? |
My mother is in need of gastric bypass surgery. She works for the state and they have an exclusion in their policy that will not cover this medically necessary procedure. She has tried open enrollment to get with a different carrier, but it is an exclusion that the state puts in. Is there anything she can do to possibly get it covered? She cant afford the $25k out of pocket! From what I understand...typically Gastric Bypass is considered an "elective" surgery, which the majority of insurances won't cover. If she truly NEEDS the surgery (medically necessary), the doctor may be able to get in contact with the insurance company & explain the situation, or at least know some other options that are available to help with the cost. Good luck! |
