Does having Gastric Bypass Surgery affect your Blood Alcohol Level???

I have heard this a couple times now and was curious if it was even true. Example.... say you get a DUI and your BAC is .21, but you have only had a couple beers. Is it higher because of your gastric bypass surgery? Hope I made sense of that. Thanks!!!

Here's some links that will help you find your answer. :)

I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I鈥檓 180 and holding, after 1 year and 7 months. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I鈥檓 down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18.

Vitamins I take鈥? you have to be very faithful about taking them after surgery, because you can become very sick if you don鈥檛. There were recommended by my surgeon and nutritionist.

There is a very good web site by a guy named Basil White. He鈥檚 a govt. worker and a comedian. He walks you through everything. Very interesting. He had the surgery and did well.

Good luck with your surgery and new life!

Yes...besides what are you doing drinking after bypass surgery?
You're on a restricted diet and alcohol is forbidden...

Yes it has a tremendous effect. The alcohol basically bypasses the stomach and goes straight into the system. It takes much less to become intoxicated, and much less also to cause you body to have such toxic levels that you have alcohol poisoning.

The doctors/surgeons advice that you do not consume alcohol after surgery but as long as its not carbonated and you are eating solid foods again the risks are decreased. I, myself, don't think I would be able to even handle a glass of wine after such surgery. I guess I'm what you might call a cheap date in that sense. LOL

The point of the surgery is to prolong your life by giving yourself a new healthy beginning. Alcohol is, in fact, a toxin to the body.
