Has anyone had bypass surgery ? after effects ? |
Wonderning if anyone has had recent heart bypass surgery and what side effects went along with it, depression, so on. I am Cardiac Nurse whose Dad had triple bypass 2 years ago. My Dad had a terrible recovery and the depression was awful. I talk all day to people post bypass, and I can honestly say that men are more depressed than women. It is a life changing surgery, the recovery is tough, and the support is little. My wife had it. It was awful seeing her after trying to eat anything go through this horrible dry heaving and ghastly retching that left her drenched in sweat and completely exhausted and saying the words, "I'm gonna die". This went on for about 9 months (to me the bypass was a huge mistake) She developed an intolerance to diary products. After losing about 120 lbs, she injured her back and became addicted to pain meds and became depressed and started on anti-psych meds. Now 3 years post the bypass surgery and a tummy-tuck, her 'pouch' has evidently been stretched to a large size. She's back to her original weight and indulging herself constantly and is miserable. Plus because of the bypass, her foods are not I think it was "heart" bypass, not "gastric" bypass I had a triple bypass in Dec 2006. One of the 3 bypasses failed within 2 months and I had to go in for stent insertion. I ended up with 3 stents. Now I feel great and I am almost fully recovered. No depression at all . The only side effect is a pain in my neck when I reach to tie my shoes. ( suspected damage to vargas nerves ) |
