If there is anyone out here that has gone through any heart bypass surgery iw ould like to hear about their own personal experiences or the experiences of someone close to them--would like to know how it goes and what the recovery is like--I am mostly interested in the first couple days after the surgery--thanks I had a triple bypass and I must say... It was not that bad. If all goes well, you spend just a day in the cardiac recovery intensive care unit and then off to the ward (or private room ) . They like to get you up and walking as soon as possible ( for a brief walk - 50 feet ) . I had 4 drainage tubes and felt liberated when they were removed. I had a 4 day hospital stay and then sent home to recover. Sneezing and coughing are a concern because it is tough on the chest area. I would go through it again, if I had too. Regis said on his show today that it is pretty bad, but if you need it----you just need to face it--it is better than dying.
After all---he looks pretty good after his surgery! So does David Letterman. unfortunately i went through one. the worse things are when they take the chest tubes out. and the fact that you can only sleep on your back for about 4-6 weeks.i didn`t have much pain and was up walking the next day. the drugs they give you aren`t fun. they cause you to hallucinate. but i thought it was going to be a lot worse. also after the surgery if you cough or sneeze it hurts like the dickins. they will give you a booklet that explains it all. hope that helps. good luck. i work with patients after they come out of surgery. once they start waking up, have stable vital signs and following commands, we will start to wean the ventilator (breathing machine). we can only decrease the settings a little at a time. once we get to the lowest settings, we will draw some blood and make sure all the parameters are normal. if the patient is able to follow commands and lift up their head for 5 sec and their vital signs are still good, we will make them do some breathing exercises. the doctor is then called and after he says it's ok we will take the breathing tube out. it's very important you stay calm through this whole process. you can't rush it or get anxious. you will only wind up hurting yourself. it is true that it hurts when you cough or sneeze but you need to take deep breaths and cough so your lungs don't collapse and so you don't get pneumonia. you will hurt and be sore. you did just have your chest open after all. OK,if this is a person you love..make sure they are awake and up asap.If you are not happy with what you see,ask for the records and go to a independant Dr.

After a surgery like this,you are first in a paralized coma so ,you wont pull out tubes.They moniter your pain,if you have it,by your brain waves and Blood Pressure will alert them,when you cant say it hurtsthey will get you up and doing special breathing exersizes,and make sure they are done as much as tolerated,you will be told to hold a pillow tight against your belly and chest and cough..DO IT,even if it HURTS like heck,IT IS important PUSH your self,dont be afarid to ask for pain meds,If you are allowed to have them use them...DOnt suffer to be tough.
Dont allow people to visit allot,even though you love that person,you dont want any germs. whe you do get a vist ask them to wash hands,or better yet ask for a box of gloves for the table in your room and make people use them as soon as they arrive,NO KIDS,and no stuff comming in ,even have them keep their purs and coats at the door way..I mean this..PREVENTION IS KEY to you health
If you see any one not useing gloves,write their name down(quietly and un-noticedly) and if you are with some one,get them to make a note as well"this person is your wittness"
Listen to me! If you give the hospital any sort of indication of you noticeing they are neglectifull,in any stretch of their actions" THEY WILL ABUSE their POWER,and limit your visitsm,to 10-15 min PER DAY,with a security guard.

When I made a formal complaint ( to the health dept)not only did they keep it internail and lead me right back to the nurse that did the non use of gloves over and over!!!
,I was abused by their power.

You need a army as your advocate,they hospital and their staff will hide behind the HIPAA laws and so forth to keep you away..and to cover any mistakes,now that I have my dads records I see that the stiches failed from the intial surgery and then when they reopened him

and never recovered, he bled internaly since his surgeytransfused 2-3XS A WEEK FOR 6 MONTHS!!!
,he needed a resporater to breath and a trechosotmy,
to breath,even his mouth was neglected,
I have photos of his bed sores..YOU must make sure they PREVENT bed sores......you cant go back,
NUTRITION AND HYGENE...Infection barrier ,pratices MUST bE used EVERY MOMENT,DONT KISS AND HOLD HANDS WITH THAT PERSON UNTILL THEY ARE ON THERE WAY HOME....
THINK ABOUT ALL THE PATIENTS THOSE DRS SEE IN THE HOSPITAL,AND HOW MANY STETASCOPES THEY USE...USUALLY one,AND THAT SAME ONE GOES ON JOE TO THE RIGHT AND SUE TO THE LEFT OF THE PATIENTS!!!! Pray and DONT i repeat dont get anything done in a teaching facility....dont dont dont......PLEASE dont....deborha heart and lung is free if you cant pay,it will take your ins,what ever they will pay,and if you can pay a million,thats ok too...they dont harvest,body parts,and they will not do transplants..THEY will take care of you,after those surgerys BUT THEY ARE superior..and if you can get there for that type of challange DEBORHA,is the only place.....even though my loveing brother in law died there .I stand by what I am telling every one...PRAY for us all for we are atthe mercey of doctors one time or the other.WE need to share with each other the good and the bad....I have allot of insight NOW that I went to HE++ll with my father here on earth i NEw JErsey..
But there are good doctors as well....but it is a business and peole cover their butts,YOU NEED to advocate for your self and loved ones,HEED my words you need at least 2 POAs simotaniously....not covering for each other....If your dad choses mom ,and mom is 69,dad is 71,mom might trust what the drs say..and will be intimadated to ask more than one question and or might believ a explaination...TRUST your eyes,your gutt..PLEASE my dad might not have had this hell on earth if I had his records...before he died

( old school people think drs are ABOVE us ,GOD like,or ROYALITY) say compleetly(and they might be wonderfull) but you need some one as well to pay attention and that has the gutts to step up and say may we please have the records....even if you just have them sent to a dr,else where...IF things dont seem right PLEASE trust your gut,be ready to act,dont wait till sores and cover ups get so big,they start ABUSEING THEIR poWER AND lie ,they even said ,The hospitals VP,yes Vice President..said I signed a document,??what document,he never produced it and he cant because i never signed anything!!!! and he said it was a agreement???? about what?? so then I didnt get to see my dad,afetr I had been with him 5/6 hrs to 16 hrs a day standing in ICU in the hospital,never give a chair....I stood,and waited and prayed..they would not give me any information why my dad had blood out of every hole in his body,with tubes in his anus,his mouth nose,dyaliss as well for a short time,BUT FOR OVEr 150 days they refused to give me his records!!!and allowd a contact to be his POA!!! MY FATHER laid there hemmorageing internailly ,no use of his diapham,couldnt breath??and I wasnt allowed to even have a second opinion.and my aunt from He++ll wasnt for what reasons?I have nt a clue besides pride,refused to look at the records or allow me,they gave her the life of my dad,because she YESSEd them to death"YES TO MY DADS DEATH.. and now I have those records with the missing needle,the everything.......a lawyer is reviewing them...even the health dept finnially wrote me and they have sighted the one facility with injustices I am waiting for opra"NJs fine""hahahah system of Public 's right to know,but you have to find out what you have a right to know,no one helps,and then you have to wait and request the info and then wait to find out how much you need to pay for such....so I am in the waiting phase....ok I am done for now...PLEASE contact me at any time...and see my art at
