Do people lose weight after heart bypass surgery?

I am going to have a heart bypass surgery this coming week--and Im wondering if anyone knows if I will lose any weight? if anyone might know from experience I would love to hear about your experiences from waking up from the bypass to weeks out after it with weight loss--thanks

I had a triple bypass in Dec 2006 and lost 10 lbs in 4 days. Some of it is loss of fluids as they do drain the chest cavity using drainage tubes. Due to the change in diet that they suggest, I have lost another 10 pounds. In this part of the country, we are requested to participate in a Cardiac Rehab program as part of our recovery. My weight has leveled off at the minus 20 lbs (post op ) .

You very well might; open heart surgery is quite stressful on the body. They'll want you to follow a strict diet afterwards, too, at least for awhile.

Often, they gain weight. The don't reduce the amount they eat, and use their weakened condition as an excuse to not exercise.

A friend and I had surgery and lost about 15 pounds by the time we left the hospital
The weight loss was mainly because you can lose your appetite and eat a lost less. I ate off a saucer at home because I ate smaller amounts. The surgery can change your eating choices for weeks. But most of my like and dislikes have come back after 3 months.
There was not much pain after the surgery. They must have given me lots of pain meds. I had a breathing mask over my nose and mouth for a couple of days and an oxygen tube when not on the mask. The whole hospitalization was not painful but you are very tired and it's so tiring to walk down the hallway, which they want you to do. It's the most tired I have every felt. They also want you to blow into a breathing
apparatus to get close to the lung capacity you had before having surgery. You take this home to continue building up your lungs. Your shoulders, ribs, and chest will be tender for months. You may need to sleep with pillows behind you or in a recliner for awhile. You feel a little better each day and back to normal, in our cases, in 2 to 3 months

Surgery has no relation to this ! You may loose your weight for another reason like no much diet to consume after surgery and no much tasty diet according to associated thinks like diabetes and high blood pressure ! If in case you will loose it you will gain it in shortest time ! Loosing of weight has nothing to do with this surgery for long term !Always YouRsmE

if u follow ur dr's instructions u will lose weight due to diet changes, exercise changes....it would be a good thing for ur heart
