I am considering having the mini gastric bypass surgery?

I am considering having the mini gastric bypass surgery, and was just curious if anyone who has had the surgery knows the best way to get insurance to cover the procedure. I have blue care network, and im going to see my doctor at the end of the month, and plan on telling her that I want the procedure done. I have done extensice research on the surgery, and know that this is what I not only want to do but need to do. How commom is it that insurance will approve a wls?

sure, lots of insurance carriers cover wls now. However, some workplaces put exclusions on wls to keep the rates down. So, if your workplace has an exclusion on it, there is no way to get the insurance company to pay for your surgery, except talking to the insurance coordinator at your workplace to see if you can get them to change their mind.

The only way to find out if your insurance covers it is to call and ask. You'll get a quick answer of yes or no, then you can get the number of someone to call about what the requirements are to get the surgery.

what is your bmi?

I'm not sure whether your insurance will cover it or not. But I would like to suggest that many poeple go overseas for their treatment to get cheap but high quality surgery and end up saving like 80%. I personally got a cosmetic surgery in Thailand and saved about 80% with travel included. My sister got her hip resurfacing in India and saved about 70% or so. We both got help from Healthbase (www.healthbase.com) which arranged our respective surgeries overseas.

Bariatric surgery has seen some incredible advances in recent years and the options open to patients today are better than they have ever been. This said, the mini gastric bypass certainly sounds attractive and different centers may well use this term for a range of procedures. The traditional mini gastric bypass is however not perhaps as an attractive option as it sounds and, for this reason, is not often performed these days.

As far as insurance cover is concerned this is very much a matter of examining your insurance plan carefully and talking to your insurance company. Many insurance companies today will cover gastric bypass surgery but there are almost always limits to both the procedures that they will support and exactly what they will and will not pay for.

As far as having surgery overseas is concerned, this is certainly an option worth considering. I know from my own experience for example, as well as from talking to many expats, that the standard of treatment at the major hospitals in Thailand (in particular in Bangkok) is excellent and that many people from the States, UK, Australia and Europe travel to Thailand specifically for medical treatment.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass have become very common and very safe now. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.

They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her Obesity surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps

i had gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago, and w/my insurance and everyone else that i had personally talked to, they and i had to have a certain amount of problems/conditions related to weight....such as high bmi, diabetes, joint pain, things like that. I would just call the insurance company (as i had to do) and ask them what the limitations are on covering this surgery, and they will usually let you know pretty well what you need....hope this helps....good luck!!
