Insurance companies and policies that cover gastric bypass surgery? |
Which insurance companies and policies cover morbid obesity surgery such as gastric bypass surgery? Please go to the website http://www.obesityhelp.com/ I know that Tennecare, Tennessee's crappy medicaid system that pays for nothing, will cover gastric bypass if an individual has at least three (if I remember correctly) chronic diseases related to the obesity, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary artery disease, history of TIAs, etc. I would certainly check with prospective insurers. More are covering the procedure, because it is cost-effective as a preventive measure against heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc. Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare. Not sure where you are, but 3 years post-op here for Laproscopic. Had Unicare HMO at the time. I wasn't very fond of them and the requirements on other health issues (i.e. have to go to their "assigned" clinics, but when it came time for surgery I was sent to the best most experienced hospital in Chicago and treated with more compassion than I can ever have asked for from both the insurance company and the hospital staff. I was approved within 2 weeks and only had to pay the deductible for hospital stay. My suggestion would be to find a doctor that is well versed in the procedure and the staff will know how do deal with the paperwork. |
