Bursitis - Can anyone tell me more about it and how to get rid of it?

Not sure how I got Bursitis in my hip but the doc says that it is caused by back problems. I have not over worked these areas and the only thing I can say is that I slouch at the computer to much and maybe I have a bad pillow or bed. I really hate this pain for I can't sit on the floor cross lagged, sleep right, get in and out of a bath tub. Its just a big pain in the hip. The doc also said not exercising, just some streching. Please help I am to young for this?!

NO NO NO. Bursitis in NOT caused by back problems!!! OMG that dr. is not giving you good info. It is an inflammation of the Bursa sac that is in the joint. It swells and then causes pressure and pain. You can use ice and ibuprofen (if okay with dr.) or some other kind of NSAID. You can also get injections into the joint that will take away the pain (they hurt a bit but are worth it if it helps). You may be sitting to much and aggravating the bursitis but you need more into about it. Go to webmd and put in bursitis to learn more about it. It is worth learning about. Unfortunetly no one is too young to get arthritis.

I too suffer Bursitis in my shoulder. I found a wet towel heated in the microwave that I can apply and use on my shoulder not only helps the pain and stiffness but mobility as well. Try it! I hope it works for you too! Take an aleve as well.Good luck.OH.....your never too young for this.

Webmd.com has causes, symptoms and treatment for bursitis at this link: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/78/...

"What Is Bursitis? Bursitis is the inflammation or irritation of the bursa. The bursa is a sac filled with lubricating fluid, located between tissues such as bone, muscle, tendons, and skin, that decreases rubbing, friction, and irritation."

Sometimes it can be treated with over the counter medicines that reduce inflammation, NSAIDS, like Aleve.

Read The MindBody Prescription. I have 2 herniated discs in my neck and they were going to do surgery the next week when I read this book. He changed my life. So many pain syndromes are not mechanical. I won't do him any justice, just read it for yourself.

If you'd rather listen to CD's, he wrote another book called Mind Over Back Pain, but he pretty much sticks to the back. He goes over other ailments, but not in the detail he does in the first book.

I'm not kidding. My friend walked with a cane for over a year. Two weeks after reading his book she was off all meds and swing dancing.

One last thing. I was on numerous pain killers. It took me two percosets just to get through my MRI and I was in blinding pain when I got done. Today I take only aspirin and that is only on rare occasions. I will never, Ever, EVER take ibuprofen again unless something is physically swollen or I have arthritis. Ibuprofen is keeping America sick. Inflammation IS your body's healing response.

The author is Dr. John Sarno, MD.

Good luck. There is hope.

I got it in my shoulder one year after I put up the Xmas Tree. I went for 2 weeks thinking I pulled a muscle but it felt like someone was ripping my arm off. I then went to the Doctor for an X-ray to make sure it wasn't cancer and they said that the best thing I did was to keep moving it so it didn't freeze up. They gave me a shot of Cortisone in it and I have only had a slight flare up from holding my cell phone too long in that hand. The Doctor told me it is a swollen sac around the joint. It is like a fluid cushion that gets inflamed and it comes from non use of a joint and then over use flares it up. I don't know if that makes sense but that is what they told me. They said to take Motrin when it hurts. I put heat on it once in awhile but if I exercise it doesn't seem to hurt.
