Ive been diagnosed with bursitis please help?

Ive been diganosed with bursitis of the shoulder. Its not getting any better because i am the only one here to do house work so I keep hurting it. Its caused by overuse of the shoulder.

The only idea that I have is to hire someone to do housework for me. I really dont want to do this.

My ?s are as follows:
1. Any other ideas on what to do about the housework?
2. Ideas on what to do to lessen the pain?

As with most things, the best treatment depends on the cause of the problem. Bursitis is usually caused by some other problem such as inflammation from an autoimmune problem, overuse, poor postural habits, or traumatic injury such as pulled or torn ligaments or muscles.

Bursitis caused by an autoimmune problem or an unknown cause of inflammation usually can't be remedied effectively without cortisone.

If the bursitis is caused by one of the other causes, in the long run, its best to treat the cause. Often, docs don't try to determine the cause if there is no history of arthritis or obvious trauma since cortisone works for all of these circumstances (at least temporarily).

If you want to determine the cause, you probably need to get a referral to an orthopedic specialist and they may want you to get an MRI and maybe an x-ray.

If you choose to treat this on your own, it take months of pampering your shoulder, applying ice, and taking ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory. You have to be diligent about doing some daily range of motion exercises and stretching to avoid a frozen shoulder joint or having the problem return, consequently, it would be a good idea to have the doc write an order for a consultation with a physical therapist if you go this route.

I had bursitis -- ouch! I got rid of it, over time, by doing this exercise... Stand near a wall and, keeping your arm straight, gently, slowly 'walk' your fingers up the wall. Stop when it hurts but try to gradually go further and further up the wall. I did this every time I was in the shower -- the warm water made it easier to move my shoulder.

Check with your doctor before you start this exercise -- just in case! -- but it did help me.

Good luck.

Using a hot pad can help, but what made my bursitis get better was swimming regularly. It hardly bothers me anymore.

gettin a maid is a good idea but if u want 2 save money then u can prolly do the chores at a slower pace while taking breaks. Wut u can do 2 lessen the pain is do the exercise the woman suggested, prolly not sleep or lean on it, let it rest and dont use it for a while, hot packs, take sumthing 4 it, and/or have a doctor prescribe sumfin 4 it.

I had Bursitis in my left shoulder. I was working in an office at the time and did a lot of filing. I could not use my left arm to file in any file drawer higher than waist high. I went to a rheumatologist who took x-rays to make sure there was no damage such as a torn rotator cuff and diagnosed it as Bursitis. She gave me three injections in the shoulder, one each in the front back and side. Yes they hurt like hell but I would do it again. For the 3 minutes of horrible pain I haven't been bothered at all with a sore shoulder.
