Any treatment for heel bursitis?

After wearing a new pair of shoes the other week began to feel a pain at the back of my heel when when walking home from work. I though t the pain was a blister but on closer inspection it seemed i had a red lump sticking out the back of my heel.

This was about 2 weeks ago and the pain still pursists. I have looked this up on the internet and have self diagnosed this as heeel bursitis.

I have tried using padding in my heels and taking Anti-inflammatory's but this has had little effect.

I have no pian when i'm not wearing shoes but as soon as i start walking in any hard backed shoes the pain is excruciating. I can now only wear a piar of soft converse trainers to walk in.

Any advice on how long this will last and what i can do to help recovery?

How would pineapples help? Report It

You may have self diagnosed yourself correctly with heel bursitis. However, a red lump on your foot is not definitive of bursitis. Bursitis is usually painful regardless of what kind of shoes you wear. You really need to see a podiatrist for a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Treatment may include:

R.I.C.E. - Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

anti-inflammatory and pain medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin

ultrasound - a diagnostic technique which uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the internal organs.

aspiration of the bursa fluid for evaluation in the laboratory

injection of cortisone into the affected area

Buy heel-lifts from a chemist ( or cut your own from underlay!) and put them into your hard backed shoes. Ice your heels for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day.

You could possibly have Haglunds Syndrome, but i will let you google that one!

They will get better soon.
