How can you help stop pain for bursitis in the shoulder?

how can you help stop pain for bursitis in the shoulder. i know that i have a huge not of muscle next to my right shoulder blade on my back and there is a bad pain in the top of my shoulder about the size of the tip of my thumb. one doctor said it was bursitus one said it was my back compensating for an older injury to my shoulder. i have no clue it just hurts and ive tried to break that muscle bunch up but its not working.
