Can anyone give me some help in dealing with the pain from bursitis? |
i have bursitis in my right shoulder, and arm. i use a computer alot at work. is it better to move your arm, or is it better not to move it. i am going to see a doctor, but i can't get in for a couple of weeks. can anyone give me some ideas what i can do to help with the pain. thank-you It sounds like you are trying to convey the fact that the computer work is the root cause of your problem. Perhaps it is. If that is indeed the case then as you work you continually irritate the shoulder. After work you may want to try to place an ice pack on the shoulder for about 10 to 15 minutes and cool it down to limit the inflammation. Give this a try for a couple of weeks and see if it helps. I am not a fan of applying heat, but if the ice does not do the trick try soaking your shoulder in a warm bath tub. If your work is the problem then ideally removing the insult would be the key, try rearranging your work station to ease the stress on your arm. One word of caution about what the doctor may do. He/she may want to give you a cortisone shot and this will drastically reduce the inflammation and pain in short order. The problem is is that the pain will return in about 2 weeks and you will be back for another shot. Cortisone is catabolic and will actually eat the tissues of your shoulder and long term will hurt more than help. If possible avoid the shot totally. I have seen the actual physical results on cadavers of injected cortisone and believe me it is not pretty. Structures that should have been there are either absent or very thin and weak. You have been warned. I have bursitis in my hips. Rest is best for treatment. Because this is an inflammation, do ice your shoulder An anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen can bring temporary relief..best wishes! |
