Shoulder bursitis? |
I have had shoulder bursitits for about 4-5 years. I think it is caused by swimming but not completely sure. I have gone to the doctor had a x-ray that showed nothing, gone to Physical therapy...that did nothing, and had cortisone shot...that did nothing. What else is there for me to do. Yes, I agree above...bursitis in no way should last 4-5 years unless it has become calcified. You need to have further evaluation to rule out problems such as a rotator cuff year or shoulder instability from a labral tear (common in swimmers). I would follow up with an orthopedist who might recommend an MRI or arthrogram. I have the same problem. What I have noticed is that if I eat more milk products it flares up more. I switched from Milk products to soy milk . It helped me. Avoid repetitive, overhead activities. Sometimes you do get calcification of a bursa following long term inflamation. I would suggest you request an MRI of your shoulder since your x rays were negative. MRI shows the soft tissues/cartilage/musculature that just doesn't show up on x -rays and is a valuable diagnostic tool. It sounds to me like you should consider being seen by an orthopedic doctor (bone and joint doc) and bring your films and MRI's with you when you go. |
