Is this hip bursitis? |
In February I was diagnosed as having sciatica (lower back ache, tingly feeling in my leg, also like a numbness, cold foot and a strange stabbing sensation in my right groin). The doctor prescribed me with a NSAID and Cocodamel, but they didn't seem to do much good. However, the ache changed and moved more to my hip area, this was an ache and still the stabbing pain (the ache is constant but not the stabbing pain). He sent me to see a physio and on the second session the physio pressed his fingers into the side of my hip and it felt really sore, he said that I had an inflamed bursa and gave me some exersises to do. These helped but I still have this constant ache, and the occasional stabbing pain in my right groin area. The physio has been away and I don't know when my next appointment will be. But the whole thing is getting me down as I am worried it is something more sinister. Today I started my period, and I am sure it is a week early! If it is hip bursitis I can't understand the following:- Normally this is something that a doctor would have diagnosed by now. Other things to look for should it be bursitis is an overall burning pain in the hip region. Also does the stiffness worsen after you are on your hip? If so then bursitis is a possibility but let a doctor diagnose this. You can continue to take this route in hopes that they can fix it, or you can go to a chiropractor and in a few short visits be good as new (or just in a LOT less pain!)....when it comes to sciatic there's no one better to work on me than my chiro...I love this man!! He's amazing! I don't know why other doctors do not give chiropractors the respect they deserve, but if it helps you alleviate the pain, isn't it worth it?? (and no, it's an old wives tale of once you go to a chiro, you have to keep going to them..not so...if they do their job properly, you shouldn't have to see them for anything other than minor adjustments). Oh boy, this sounds familiar. You are correct in being worried of something more sinister. I have been through similar frustrations, and I found that the cause of my sciatica, and all of my pain originated at a herniated disc. I am sure with everything you describe you are in the same boat. You mentioned being X Rayed but a herniated disce will not show on a simple X Ray, you need a MRI. I'm would almost bet that they will find that you have a herniated or ruptured disc at L4 or L5. You said that the treatment that your doc is giving you did relieve pain from you foot and leg, what that is doing is starting to try to repair your damaged nerve. But it won't go any further, because the nerve continues to be damaged by your disc. It is common for the pain to mainfest itself in the hip and cause unbelieveable pain. Again, the soreness that your physio found in your hip is the nerve which runs from your back through your hip, down your leg and into your foot. The stabbing pain is caused by movement making the disc "jar" your nerve. I could go on and on to convince you, but a MRI will say it all. |
