What is bursitis and what is a bursa?

What is bursitis and what is a bursa?

Bursae are small sacs between your the bones, tendons, and muscles in your joints. They contain fliuids that help your joints move more easily. Bursitis is an inflammation of a bursa, typically caused by overuse or repetitive use of the affected joint. It typically goes away in about a week with proper treatment, which usually involves rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen (Advil, e.g.).

Bursitis is a form of arthritis ( I have it ) and bursa I don't know but a bursar is a treasurer. Is that what you meant?

A bursa (plural bursae or bursas; Latin: Bursa synovialis) is a small fluid-filled sac located at the point where a muscle or tendon slides across bone. Bursae serve to reduce friction between the two moving surfaces. There are hundreds of them throughout the body. Bursa is Latin for purse, which is what a bursa resembles.
Infection of a bursa leads to bursitis (inflammation of a bursa). The general term for disease of bursae is "bursopathy". The condition may be acute or chronic.
