2nd Degree Burn to 8 Year Old's Eyelid and 1st degree burns to cheek?

Pls help! At dinner tonight, I dished my 8 yo daughter up a plate of spaghetti. I put it on the counter & she came to get her plate. As she grabbed it, the hot spaghetti fell off her plate, into her eye, down her face and all over her chest. She started screaming & I grabbed her, took her into the bathroom and started splashing cold water on her face & soaked her down w/wet towels. There was no burns to her chest. I got some ice and wrapped it in paper towel for her eye & noticed the skin on her eyelid and below her eye was peeling off. We raced her to the closest clinic who said they didn't know what to do and to take her to the Children's Hospital (on the other side of the city) So we did. They doped her up on codeine as soon as we arrived and we waited forever. The doc told us to put polysporin on it and sent us home...but she is in so much pain it's killing me! They didn't even bandage her eye! Her eye sight is OK, but I wonder what else I can do for the burn...pls help

1] give her motrin every six hours, with a little food. Alternate with Tylenol halfway between if necessary.
2] alternate: pure aloe vera gel [ from health food store ] and cold compress [ ice in ziplock bag, covered with soft paper towel like Bounty ] to burns, every hour, while awake.
3] notify the school, so she can get work for home, until the areas 'dry up' a bit [ don't want to expose her to a lot of germs, with an open'wound'.]
4] call your family pediatrician, tell him what is going on, and take her in if need be [ maybe he can at least give her something for pain at night ].

Aloe Vera gel
Ice and attention
Calm your daughter down and help her breathe
And don't bandage it. Burns need to heal.
Also, do not run cold water on it... Bad idea, the pressure from running water itself will just agitate the hell outta them
Give it a week or so and you'll see progress

I agree with Slim. See if you can have the dr. who saw her at the hospital prescribe some pain medication. If not - or until then - give her tylenol or motrin. And use cool water - not ice water - to help soothe the pain.

And of course . . . LOTS of hugs and kisses!

Awwww...Ibuprofen for the pain and I've heard that covering the wound itself with cling film (saran wrap) can help minimize the pain. You might have to have her keep her eye closed for this but it's worth a try. Make sure that the plastic wrap is completely covering the wound itself. the plastic won't stick, so that's always a plus. I really help she gets better.

The only trouble with burns or scalds are that the lesser the burn the more painful it is . I agree with Matt on letting the air get to it but as for anelgesia use a proprietory like junior panadol also one major thing will be to keep her away from anything warm ( I know it sound silly ) as any heat near the area has a tendency to inflame it pain wise

take her back bloody hell i cant believe that the hospital sent you home thats worth complaining about i am really sorry to hear about this happening.
