My tongue burns when i sleep?

i have an absessed tooth that oozes in my mouth..but im not sure if some of the infection gets on my tongue in the middle of my night and causes it too burn. but usually i sleep with my head under the covers and i wake up and it burns. what is the cause of this? but as soon as i do a mouth wash with listerine the burning goes away. ???

If you have an absessed tooth you need to see a dentist immediatly. That is a serious infection that can to spread to your neck and be fatal, remember that you windpipe goes through your neck. Yes the stuff that most infections produce would taste bad and are not the normal pH of the rest of the mouth and could irritate the tissue. The listerine rinse probably helps remove the pus that is draining and helps kill some of the bacteria causing the problem, unfortunately the only way to fix an absess is remove the cuase, so remove the tooth or get a root canal.
