Second Degree Burns? Please help?

My BF has second degree burns and he has been cleaning in the following way: First he washes with anti-bacterial soap and washes it off, then he puts iodine and lets it dry, and then he puts antiseptic, and last but not least he puts neosporin and he wraps it up with gauze. Is that enough medicine for it to cure without causing an infection?? He just purchased today Silvadene which is supposely good for burns. He's going to start using that today. He's removed almost all the dead skin.

He doesnt have insurance so he's trying to avoid going to the DR or ER unless he gets an infection. Last time he was in the hospital the bill was almost 4K dollars and he was there 1 hour and all they did was prescribe him painkillers. So, in this event he can probably be expecting a higher bill if he goes.

okay if he has second degree burns to the whole front of both legs that is a really big deal. He REALLY needs to go to the doctor. At first I was just going to say for him to use the silverdene and cover it with dry sterile dressings. But wow, if he has second degree burns to the whole from of his legs that has an incredibly high risk for infection. Infection on that large of an area could very easily send him in to septic shock. (aka blood poisoning) which could very well be deadly if not treated. So seriously have your boyfriend go to the hospital. It is really a big deal.

Yes he can expect a higher bill. can you please tell me how much area is affected and the cause of the burn?
