What are bunions and what causes them to form?

joan is an executive secretary for a large corporation. her normal attire for work includes high-heeled shoes sometimes with pointed toes, resulting in the formation of bunions on her big toes. what are bunions and what causes them to form?

inflammation and thickening of the first metatarsal of the big toe usually in conjunction with lateral displacement and enlargement of the joint. They may be caused by heredity, degenerative bone or joint disease. Most often caused by tight fitting shoes and high heals that push toes together and displace weight onto the forefoot.
