Has anyone ever had surgery on your feet to remove bunions?

If so, please tell me what you think. Did it work? How long did the bunion stay off? (I heard that they come back) did your feet have lots of scars after? Can you now wear sandals? Did it help with back and knee pain? thanks

Hi, I'm 21 and have had bunions removed on both feet. I had one foot done 4 years ago and the other about 3 years ago. I had the bunions removed from both sides of my feet. Both surgeries were successful, but the recovery can be tough. Since I was young, mine wasn't bad, but it is lengthy, and you must wear a surgical boot for about six weeks, which can be annoying during the winter when it's cold, or the summer when you want to do fun things outdoors. Not to mention you are on crutches a week or two. Plan on taking a week off of work or school for recovery. My feet have small scars, the inside bunion scar is about an inch and a half, and the outside bunion scar is about an inch.

Yes, you can now wear shoes that you couldn't wear before and sandals. Your foot will be swollen for a couple months, so you can't wear tight shoes until the swelling goes down. Most people don't even notice my scars. You can't see them unless you are looking for them. My feet look so much better now, without the unsightly bumps.

It does alleviate a LOT of back pain. I didn't have any knee pain before so I can't speak to that. Also, I got arch supports for my shoes, since my bunions were partly caused by flat feet.

That covers your questions I think but if you have any others feel free to email me. I had very successful surgeries and would recommend having your bunions worked on!

Oh, and mine have not come back at all, and I am a very active person..(jogging, swimming, tennis, work on my feet all day..)

no

my friend had it done. it was painful and walking stairs caused it to come back.

yes, but you have a lot of questions and i am way too lazy to answer them all... sawr-ry...

bunion surgery results do contain scars, but dont worry oinment always helps!

my girlfriend just had this surgery. it is a long process of healing and you will be off your feet for a couple months. she says she feels way better and the old pain she had is gone. there are some scars too.

A few of my nurse colleagues have had bunionectomies and they continue to have pain and problems. Could be because we're on our feet so much of the time. One now wears splints. I'm aware that others consider bunionectomy a "gift from God", but I don't know any of these people personally. I think it's a 50/50 proposition.

I've been considering the surgery myself and have been researching many of your concerns. I found the following website to be the most informative to date - http://www.drmoy.com. Apparently it can be done with very little pain, quick recovery and no need for crutches. You can actually view before and after pictures.

Hope this is helpful.
