Is there anyone on here that has had bunions surgically corrected?

I have bunionettes that have been getting worse. My feet hurt much of the time and it is very difficult to find any shoes that I can wear without pain. I'm looking for someone that has had surgery to get some more info. Anyone that might be willing to help me out? Or do you know of any good web resources? Thanks

I did the surgery 7 years ago. I was exactly where you were - no shoes fit and my feet hurt badly all the time.

My advice: Find an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in nothing but feet - not a podiatrist and not an orthopedic that does other things (knees, hands, etc.). Get several opinions. I went out of network for my insurance and paid more but I talked to 3 different surgeons who recommended 3 different approaches. Ultimately I went with the orthopedic who was the foot specialist. Two of his patients (one who was a registered nurse), my regular general practitioner and even my pharmacist told me this was the right guy. One guy suggested the "just shave the bone technique" - run away - it does not fix the underlying deformity and the bump can come back.

My sister just had the same surgery and went through the same selection process (she lives in a different place). She is still healing but glad its over. She seems to be healing well.

I have never once regretted my decision. The pain was not as bad as I anticipated (though one of my sister's feet did hurt her quite a lot because it ended up being very bad and difficult to fix). I had both done at once - it was outpatient and went home the same day walking on crutches. I was walking short distances and back at work in about 3-1/2 weeks, mostly normal at 6 weeks and back to normal completely at 6 months. I can fit shoes and my feet don't hurt anymore. My feet have not regressed at all in the 7 years since surgery.

The web sources I found were not all that helpful. There are several approaches to the surgery and it depends on your specific deformity.

I had laser surgery, but that was 1987.
And I'm doing great..still wear my heels!

I have them also, no corrective work done, I just deal. But I have been told they can also shave the bone.

I had the surgery on both sides of my foot. Was an extremely painful recovery!!!, but now I am glad I had it done - I'm painfree. My surgery was successful. My cousin has had the surgery done 8 times without success.
