Bullying and i's relationship to depression and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.?

I am hoping to start a degree this year and considering bullying and it's effects. How many people on here have been bullied and have been diagnosed with depression and PTSD as a result? (I have had sexual harassment).Ho w did it affect you? I had nightmares and still have the occasional panic attack.

That is a very interesting subject to consider, and you might want to write your dissertation about it. It will resonate with hundreds of people.

I was bullied at a girl's school but I have recovered now. For some people this can scar their lives and is a very serious problem.

I have chronic very very severe complex post traumatic stress disorder, psychosis and severe bipolar depression. I was bullied SEVERELY. I was restrained and forced to watch images and videos of children being sexually tortured to death. I was sexually abused. I had no friends at the school.

My PTSD symptoms are:
- Nightmares
- Dissociative flashbacks
- Psychotic hallucinations
- Depression
- Self-harm
- Suicidal tendencies

I am 58 and recently was bullied a new friend..I got out but I lost confidence and even cried in a new social situation.I only realised later what had happened. It really made me realise what it must be like for people bullied on a regualr basis .terrible

i suffered bullying for a year at school and it still haunts me to this day to the fact that i trust noone but myself! even with boyfriends i just dont trust them. i have friends close friends to me now which funny thing is i do kind of trust in away so its weird. plus the fact i have had two ex boyfriends treat me very badly where i did suffer from what you say and it is very hard and would hate for anyone else to go through it. hope all goes well with degree that is a very good subject would like to hear on what things you find out x x

i have manic depression, still have bad dreams and am unable to communicate properly.the problem i have is with other people who won't understand and believe it's just an act or ignore me totally.

well i was verbally bullied my my classmate who was a boy.. it made me stressed and sad when he bullied me... i just try not to show that im affected and i don't give him what he needs.. that is my scared and embarassed face... he wants me to be humiliated but i never gave him that chance.. so he loses...

PANIC ATTACKS: Have you seen the techniques for control of panic attacks, in section 8, at * http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris yet? Begin by holding your breath for 5, or 10 seconds: this will give you the confidence to realise that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING, but not pass out, or die (your autonomic nervous system resumes breathing, if unconscious). Understand panic attacks, and what triggers them, in your life (if it is unresolved anxiety, see section 6). The paper bag method works for most people: have you tried it? If you are fairly suggestible, the following are reliable, and reasonably priced:

Your last alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause: read section 1, and examine the 1-800-therapist website, and use the locators, and phone book. I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed recently in my life, to trigger them? I suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack. Also see section 37* I was bullied, but I'm tough: I fought back: they found weaker targets!

I was bullied by children and teachers at my school, it has affected me really badly, I suffer from a number of phobias.
Fear of going out and fear of being around alot of people and strangers are the worst for me.
I have difficulty communicating and am extremely shy, unfortunately it means that some people think I'm rude, which I'm not.

I still have nightmares and suffer with panic attacks.

I also have depression.

Though I am extremely fortunate in that I have never experienced serious bullying first hand, I have however witnessed its side effects - which were utterly devastating. This bullying began in primary school, was ignored and not addressed properly, carrying on into secondary school. However some people are very badly bullied and seem to come through relatively unscathed. However some do not, the damage is done and is huge, leading to depression in later life and eventually more serious mental health conditions. Awareness of the effects of bullying in schools, the work place and in personal relationships is essential and anything to raise the profile has to be a good thing! Very best of luck x
