Is continual belittling jokes at someones expense a form of bullying?

if someone undermines you with belittling jokes and won't stop when asked, is that a bully? (both adults in their 30's)
-when you tell this person they can't be in your life until they quite making jokes at your expense because it embarrses you, especially in front of other people and he starts yelling and swearing that 'you have issues'.

I know it is verbal abuse and emotional abuse because it edventually gave me axiety attacks over time and tore at my self confidence.

What when is mistreatment called abuse?
When is mistreatement called bullying?

Where is that line drawn?

it IS abuse when it HURTS and you tell them it hurts and their response is to make YOU to blame for it.
it's not funny to embarrass people.it's mean.we don't tolerate it in small children,it's something they are taught is wrong at an early age.Why would it be okay for adults?

I remember hearing about a woman who was tired of being hurt by her husband,and put her linen over her head at a restaraunt when he would not stop.she didn't say a word,she just sat there.imagine.

It is bullying. It's trying to undermined your confidence that is bullying! Mistreatment is anything which makes you feel devalued.

Constant belittling jokes is indeed a form of bullying. And I have had words with my sister's father in law because of that. Not that I expect it to stick- but he knows I'll let him know that I am not impressed by such inane behavior.

Yes, being the victim of a bully does lead to increased chances of being a victim of other more severe emotional and verbal abuse.

I don't draw a line but sometimes people draw a line at age of attacker. If young, then it's bullying instead of abuse. Bullies need to get more intervention when young so they don't spend a lifetime hurting other people.

For people in their 30's, it is abuse, not bullying! Find some help and domestic violence shelters should be able to offer you counseling or referrals. If it's a family member, it is time to spend less time with them or just get out their life forever!

yes as well as emotional abuse. and they are the one with the problem instead of "you have issues" they do. and its always best off to stay out of any relationship with anyone who belittles you in any way.or tries to undermine you in anyway. good luck and best wishes.
