Can severe bullying throughout your childhood & adolecence contribute to having an' extreme ' low self esteem?

as an adult?
im 30 years old now with borderline personality disorder and ptsd symptoms to.
i can remember feeling timid, subdued and having an extreme low self esteem even as a 10 year old, upwards.

i was sexually abused at 3..then again at 7 years old. i was bullied throughout high school.....my family were very strict and i felt they suppressed me growing up, especially my dad.

i feel bad because as an adult i still feel timid and subserviant to him now.
my lifes been excessively traumatic. ive never made a friend in life because of my problems....never been in a relationship either.
i live alone in a one bedroom apartment on welfare....ive aged badly.
can i still overcome all this?

theyve offered psychotherapy but i have racing thoughts each day, cant think strait, hold a train of thought...i forget...i have obsessive worries.
i have i panic and anxiety which makes me scared to go out..alot of anger...nightmares...flashbacks.

do i need more than psychotherapy?

Yes our experiences , both good and bad in our lives are what help us to grow and create ourselves to what we are today.
You and I have a lot in common. I was bullied and teased relentlessly. Because I was different from the ones teasing me. My health and looks didnt allow me to fit into their neat little circle. I was called witch, b* and ugly, fugly, and many others things. This teasing is why my motto is where true beauty is at in life.
I was picked on, beated, raped, molested, and mugged and so on in life. So my self esteem and self confidence is at an all time low. As even now people say I do a great job when I'm hired in a job, but once they find out I have a slight impairment in my life they consider me a liaibility and fire me, but make up some lies about to avoid being sued.
Even though we are, our own unique individual people around us try to keep us down , because they see sometihing in us that can threaten them and how they are seen in life. Dont take this heart too much. God created you as a unique individual. No one else is quite like you.
You can overcome a lot of this, with friends that understand and accept you for who you are and not what you are. As look at it through God's eyes. This body is just a shell of the child he created. He has a new body and life for the souls souls that are really who we are, So rise above the world to what God has instore for you.

Since we've been in the same boat all along, come to me to release that pains other insist on throwing at you and me.
You aptterns of thinking and personality are the results of evrything up till now. Read my testimony in my yaoo360 page to understand more of what I mean.

Well to answer your first question first, yes. Extreme bullying and parental lack of support are two of the main things that can lead one on the path of low self esteem. If a child is knocked down enough, they stop trying to get back up and often start believing what is said about them. Then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Now, I do believe that you had some things going on before that, especially having borderline personality disorder. That is not something you will 'get' through bullying, but something in the firing of your neurons. So it sounds like you were really handed a double whammy.

And for your second question, I am gathering that you have not really been in psychotherapy? It is the first line of defense you should use right now. There is not much 'more' than psychotherapy that you can do. They will help you with the racing thoughts, the anxiety, the obsessive worries. That is what the therapy is for. So you should give it a shot. Medication can help in the short run too, although you may already be on something (if not...you sound like you could benefit). But take up the offer for the therapy and get some of this stuff out of you. It helps a lot to get another perspective too.

Severe abuse can make a person psycho. A person becomes mentally ill, depress, or they become an abuser and in the best situation they overcome the abuse and stop the pattern. Your first step is to get yourself to the therapy appointment. And read the books and websites i suggested.

yes you can overcome this. Proper diagnosis with psychiatrist, weekly psychologist visits at first and medication. Get your family doctor to arrange this...even if it takes going in hospital to access the initial services. Get your life back. Yes you can do it and will take great pride when you have. As far as money goes; success in life does not have to be measured in how much money you have in your bank account or what car you drive etc etc. Get your life back and take baby steps forward; then help someone else. Maybe that will be your true calling. Luck to you. You can do it.
