Internet Bullying? |
WTF, How do you get bullied on the internet? Do people really get upset because they got called stupid in a chat room. Maybe it's time to turn off the computer and get a life. i totally aggree! omg the stupid like, 11 year olds tellin there moms cuz someone called them stupid! WOWSERS! well there are tons of ways not just in instant messager. Well people on the internet should be mature enough to stop talking to that person on the computer. My psychiatrist says that the psychology of internet communication would make an interesting field of study, and he theorizes that the nameless, faceless nature of the internet empowers certain types of people with the ability to say to you over the internet certain things they'd never have the b@11$ to say to you to your face. The internet can be tough because people often say things that they would not normally say to some one"s face. It also a way to spread lies and rumors around very easily. Think about a high school. Think about the kind of damage that can be done by and to people of that age and mind set. I have heard stories about people being told to kill themselves because they are worthless or different. Actually, it is possible to be bullied on the internet. Myspace and facebook are rife with it-kids pick on other kids they know from school by posting insulting things on other people's profiles and sending nasty messages, or spreading gossip online. I've never been insulted by things that people have said to me in a chat room or message board, but some people take them personally, I know. I think that it's because people do invest time in online communities and expect people to be courteous and polite, not mean. It doesn't mean that they don't have a life, but rather that they come online perhaps to de-stress and meet new people. I did receive a malicious message from someone I knew in real life, and I did feel bullied because it was random, unexpected, and because I'd never been bullied before online. It makes you feel unsafe and paranoid that you'll open your inbox and find more mean messages. I agree that people spend way too much time in chat rooms--and seemingly don't have a 'real' life. Then they complain about these virtual people--WTH is right--these are strangers, probably lying about their ages and everything else under the sun. |
