What do you think is the nature of bullies and bullying?

Depends on the method of the particular type of bully as there are many subtle differences between them.

You have your anger driven bully... I find that these were almost always people who were bullied themselves at one time or another and that they bully... in order to gain back their own loss of power that they lost while subject to someone Else's bullying.

I actually feel sorry for this type of bully because this is a direct result of this person being hurt and abused and they do not know how to ask for help so they try and SHOW people how badly they feel inside by hurting someone else. Usually in no greater measure then they themselves have been wounded.

Because of the laws of energy transference, This kind of bully creates others just like them if not met with the rational and understanding to put out their fire with the water of kindness and understanding... so to speak.

Which is hard... but it is noble and more evolved for the person on the receiving end to cultivate understanding and nip this in the bud by not encouraging them. best way to do that is to never fight them back... but never show fear at the same time because it is the fear that they require to gain power over their victim.




Then you have the sneaky, evil intentional bullies... The mental head fuc*kers and the game players... Usually adults, Coorporate and workplace bullies of a less obvious nature but they do twice the damage and I personally find it 10 times less evolved and 10 times more cruel than the latter type.

This is a kind of bullying that is thought out... plotted and planned, intentional and delibrate and meant to hurt, confuse and in some cases even destroy lives and mental states and emotions of those they deem weaker or those that they feel have something they want and see you as just some blob of flesh that is in the way of them having it. These are often pack dogs and fight in groups using manipulation, lies and other tactics to convince others against one person or opposing group of people.

I find these to be the most deplorable, insensitive, evil kind of bully in existence because like a ghost or an assumption... You can't fight what you can see, prove or show anyone else a proper example of it without looking completely insane yourself and they know it!

I think these types should be burned at the stake personally...

They have low self-esteem and confidence, so they bully people weaker then them in order to feel as if they have control or better.

i beat up bullies so they know how it feels to be bullied,...

I think people with low self esteem feel reassured when they bully people. There not happy and they don't want anyone else to be happy.

Parent's beliefs, and insecurities. Or (in my case)
Bully, may learn this behaviour from older students (i did) and then realized after bullying his/her ego was 'rewarded'. A brief sense of gratitude. (fake, but satisfying a goal that you suceeded in something). negative reinforcement ( i know now)
(I remember be sat down in grade 7 and my principal noticed my behaviour taking a similarity to another bully, a week before. The prinicpal asked "where did you learn to fight that dirty? (he knew) and i knew he knew... and realized not only did i do something bad, but where i learned such a behaviour.) The principal did not punish me, like the other bully, instead he appointed me as one of the senior lunch supervisors for the school. (it made me equally satisfied, and soon was looked upon as a mentor and not as a bully)

Sometimes they were bullied as a child or they witnessed bullying behavior from others.
Often they have an insecurity complex or a feeling of low self esteem and this is their way of feeling in control of their own lack of security by thinking they can control someone else. All bullies use at least one form of abuse which includes verbal, physical and psychological attacks. The most subtle form of bullying in adults is psychological which takes place within all arenas, ie the homefront, employment, etc. Childhood bullying consists of verbal and physical abuse which leaves there victims psychologically injured and/or physically harmed. Bullying toward adults and children can cause mental distress that can carry on throughout a lifetime. Bullies can also be highly educated in a position of authority and use this to their advantage.

As you already know, available to those who need to learn more and what to do about bullying, there are numerous web sites and books and seminars on this subject as there is a need to enlighten the public as to the rampant nature of bullying.
