What effect do you think bullying has on a child...?

when theyre young AND when they grow up?

i was wondering because i was bullied through my whole school life from 5-16 and i just wondered if other people can spot the bullied child or whether it makes them bad people.

I was bullied as a child and as an adult now.. its horrible and has left me wary of anyone.. i dont feel like i can trust anyone anymore. I went into a deep depression when i was at school. I wish i could say i am better now but i do slump sometimes when bad things happen.. bullying is not good.. only problem is. it isnt being sorted when it needs sorting the most.. in schools

mental depression and anger management problems.

they become quiet, shy, unfriendly, and unhappy. when they are young they will be scared and nervous.

depression most probably

I was bullied. Just as I know it's possible to transcend the effect it has.

suicide, drug use, strange diets

Depends on the child's personality.

Some could become withdrawn and depressed, and could develop low self esteem, (if they didnt have that to begin with)

Some may fight back and resolve not to let someone else dictate their selfworth.

It could make them become a better person when they grow up, since they know what it feels like, they may resolve to help others that appear to be in the same situation as adults. It may make them feel like they want to try to change the world, and from there they could go into politics, or social service. It could also help them to find God and accept him into their lives.

Bullying is not fun to go through, but it does not always end in something negative.

toughens them up and teaches them life isn't a bowl of roses and not everybody is nice or will like you.
bullying....sink or swim
if life give you lemons make lemon aid

Sadly, I think it will do one of two things: the child will think it is what you do to feel validated and eventually bully someone, possibly to the point of abuse, or they will live their life as a victim. Neither one is a good way to go. Help is the answer.

I think it makes them go into depression which if isn't caught soon enough will just get deeper and then it turns to thoughts of suicide which linger into adulthood. I think it gives them self-esteem/confidence issues.

it depends on the child...how you react to bullying depends entirely on you..
I know kids who in turn become bullies, this is where the fear from bullying has completely eroded any security the child could have know..
I know people who grow up to be ok - kind, compassionate, humane people, they learnt early how to cope or sort therapy.
And some kids will block out the painful traumas and carry on as if nothing and then one day suffer a nervous breakdown later on in life when the volcano erupts. It really depends on indivdual and other circumstances around the kids life.

But I'd imagine its always a nightmarish expereince at the time, it was for me...

its usually the child with no self esteem or self confidence bullying robs them of that
