Bulimia? dangers to my body? |
mkay, i'm 16, and i've been bulimic since i was 14 (yes, i am begining to get help so no lectures....) i forced myself to vomit a few days ago, but i dont do it nearly as much as i use to (normally 4 times a week; sometimes its up to several times a day) but anyway, i was wondering if there is anything i should pay attention to - like, effects bulimia has on a body other than the obviouse: my throat gets sore sometimes when i eat and hurts like freakin hell when i puke (obviously) but then i also havent had my period since july (and i've been having them since i was 12) i was wondering if bulimia is to blame. i get the cramps but then my period just doesnt come....should i be worried about that? i've missed months before but not this many..... WELL BULIMIA WONT SO MUCH CAUSE YOUR PERIOD TO BE ALL OUT OF WACK BUT YOUR EATING IS PROBABLY THE MAIN FACTOR TO PLAY ON THAT ONE... that's a pretty bad sign--your body is shutting down somewhat if you're not getting your period. It won't just make your throat hurt it can also lead to heart disease later on and eventually your teeth will rot out because the enamel has been worn off. Yea, bulimia is to blame. I just learned about this in my nutrition class. Some characteristics of bulimia are.. menstrual disturbances, tooth decay, and swollen glands. Hope this answers your question. Hi hun...so glad you are getting treatment. This disease can cause many devastating things to happen; yes it can cause your period to stop. it can cause stomach pains as well as you can rupture your stomach and esophagus. Your teeth can rot out; you can get electrolyte abnormalities (sodium, potassium, etc) that can cause a heart attack; irregular heart beats; bowel problems;decreased sex drive and/or death. It is not something to fool around with. It's a very dangerous disease. Good luck with your treatment. |
