Anorexia and bulimia...do you think they are still a problem in the U.S.?

I've recently been asking family members and friends if they
think anorexia and bulimia is still a problem in the U.S. Most of
them said it's not anymore. Obesity is the problem now. Yes,
obesity is the hot topic in America now, but anorexia and bulimia haven't just disappeared. Mental disorders like these don't just disappear. They have, however, become more acceptable by society.
I have fought anorexia and won. Luckily, I never become that
ill from it. Anorexia and bulimia seem to be becoming more acceptable as lifestyle choices rather than mental disorders with the scary rise of "pro-ana" websites that actually teach people how to hide anorexia. So, please tell me that some people agree with me that they are still problems in the U.S., because I believe they are. It is common knowledge that the longer you ignore a problem, the worse it will get.

yes they are still a huge problem.
congratulations on your success!
to those who think that its not a problem, may either be becuase they have received wrong information, or that becuase now self-injury (cutting, burning) is very commom and sometimes staving and binging/purging are today seen are put in the category of self-injury

and to christine, obesity is not always a mental disorder, but complusive eating is.

have you not seen the "am i fat?" questions on here?

they are still very big problems in the US, and as long as people still put emphasis on stupid celebrities and models, it will be.

As long as the very thin are looked upon as superior and the advertisers, Hollywood, etc. glorify being unreasonably thin it will remain a problem. It is a mental disorder only compounded by the media. Unfortunately, especially the young, both boy and girls, are mostly affected by it.

Yes, I completely agree with you! Eating disorders are definitely a huge problem. Obesity and eating disorders can easily coexist in a society.

Anorexia and bulimia are still a problem everywhere, including the U.S. People suffer from anorexia and bulimia for many different reasons and until these things go away nor will these disorders.

Yes, both anorexia/bulimia and obesity are problems. also, if people call anorexia and bulimia mental disorders, people should call obesity one too. anorexia and bulimia are when people choose to be skinny by not eating and throwing up. obesity is just the opposite, they eat too much and excercise little. i think people should just be happy with their body's. they were made that way for a reason. also, i think people should stop picking on models, yes some may be anorexic, but if they are they arent allowed in Fashion shows. only healthy, naturally skinny models are, i know this because i am a healthy, naturally skinny model. so people should stop picking on us and everyone else and only help the people who actually need help. lastly, People shouldnt go anorexic because models are, thats not the point, designers just want thinner girls because clothing is easier to be draped on them, like coat hangers basically, its not because they want everyone in the world to be skinny.
