Bruxism (Help)?

Ok,
I went to my GP and he said that i may be clenching my teeth at night time, thats why i was getting so much ear and head pains.

The pain has started again this morning unfortunately. He ays i might have to wear a splint. I know i grind in the day. What can i do about grinding in the day? And can somebody give me some help on splints?

Some ways to help stop grinding during the day is to try to make a conscious effort to recognize when you are grinding, and remind yourself to stop. You may also try chewing gum, so that way when you are not aware of what you are doing, at least you are chewing instead of grinding.
I do recommend that you see a dentist. He can make a splint that fit your teeth for you to wear at night. He will take an impression of your mouth, and then have an appliance made to specifically fit your mouth. When you wear this at night, it may help you stop grinding, or if you continue, you will grind on the splint material instead of your teeth.

I wear a bite guard, or bruxism splint at night and it really helps. Your dentist can take impressions to make you one. There are some mouth guards over the counter you could buy, but those aren't usually recommeded. The guard your dentist can make for you is custom and all you teeth will bite evenly on it. Which is what you want. In some cases if somone clenches or grinds a lot during the day they have to wear the bruxism splint then also.
The way I stopped clenching during the day is just being aware of it, and try not to do it. I would catch myself clenching all the time. Usually it is stress related. Hopefully once the stress goes away so will the grinding and clenching.

Find a dentist in your area who is a PANKEY dentist. Check out http://www.pankeydentist.org/main.php. They have special training in splint therapy and bite adjustment.

Take a calcium/magnesium supplement before bed.

And in the morning take a b complex, and zinc.

As a dental hygienist, I have helped many people stop bruxing with these supplements.
