I have a 5 year old son and i am sure he has this nocturnal bruxism or gnashing of the teeth, what is the cure

aside from the mouthpiece as protection , is there a medicine to be taken or any other.

As a Dental Hygienist, I can tell you that bruxism is quite common in children who are in the active process of losing teeth and/or having new teeth come in. Your son is in the perfect age group for this and most likely will outgrow it.

My own son did the same thing when he was younger, but now that he is nine he doesn't anymore.

there is no medicine
can be a sign of stress, have there been changes in his life recently
bullying at school, new teacher, best friend moved away, etc

the best thing really is a mouthpiece

No there is no medication for this. My dentist made me a splint for my mouth, it's great. I suggest you get one for your child.

Like grinding the teeth at night? I have that too, and have found no releif. There is no cure. I have a mouth guard, but I lost it. The mouth guard is good at protecting the teeth, but it dosent protect against the clenching at night. This causes awful jaw and neck pain in the morning.
I have read that massaging lavendar essential oil ( diluted)into the jaw before bed can help and doing anything relaxing before bed can help. Anything to help get anxiety down.
