A week ago a girl smashed my right thumb in a heavy door at while closing it. What should I do about the nail? |
Almost a week and a half ago my thumb was smashed in a door. It began to throb instantly and now bottom half of the nail is black and some of my thumb is bruised. The nail was not torn nor did blood come out at the time of the accident or since. Will my nail heal on its own and the black mark go away? Will the nail fall off? Should I see a doctor? the black will go away on its own it happend to my toe once with a door your nail will not fall off at all it will just take sometime to heal if it feels broken then you should see a doctor other then that i wouldnt worry about it go to the doctor and they might drain your thumb keep ice on it, and do not peel off the nail by yourself thats like an automatic infection, but id say dip you finger in some isoporyl alcohol, and leave it alone the nail will fall off its self If the nail falls off it will do so on its own. Then it will grow back. If it doesnt fall off then its just bruised and the black mark will go away eventually. that happened to me I have lost a few nails in my time. You will be fine ! You will most likely lose your nail. But as you read this a new one has already begain to replace it. In about three month you will have a new nail. If you go to the Dr, he may want to drain the nail of blood. This will not save your nail, but releave the presure your feel. You dont have to to see a Dr........... Your thumbnail may turn purple and probably will fall off in time as your new nail grows in. See a doctor if signs of infection develop, like redness or pus. |
