Quick question 10 points?

Ok so today in basket ball (about 11am) the ball hit my middle fnger straight on, and my finger is HUGGGEEELLLYYYY swollen, its not broken becaus ei can bend it and i broke a finger before and it doesnt hurt as much as when i broke that one.
Its just swollen, slightly brusied
My question is, if i put ice on it will it bring the bruising out?

Im just worried if i put ice on it it will bruise badly?
I dont wnna have a huge bruise over my finger!

If you put ice on it, it will help the swelling go down. You will see the bruise no matter what, because of what happened to you. Keep the ice on it, the swelling will go down, and if you don't think that your finger is safe enough, go to your local drug store and buy a finger splint and some tape, and wrap your finger up. It helps a bunch- and I've also done what you have done in basketball.

Good Luck with your finger. :]

yes it will defindentlt do so.

Yes it will, do it now...

probably

ice is probably the best thing. it will bring the swelling down, and if it doesnt then it is probably more serious. i dont know about bringing the 'brusing' out though.

I dont know, but it is sounds like youve staved it, put it on ice, strap it to your 1st and 3rd finger and dont use it!!

might bring out the bruising but when its out, it'll clear so dont worry

it should increase the amount of blood flow to the area (trying to keep it warm) and with the increased blood flow will come all the platelets and red blood cells that shuld deal with the problem fine, but as always its probably best to seek medical attention as it may be fractured, chipped or generally balls up

Nope and you can't possibly be certain it is not fractured, despite it's mobility.

Ice on it immediately, alternatively glass of water with ice in it and hold your finger in the glass for as long as you can and keep repeating the process.

yeah i should think so wow i bet that hurt ouch!!!!!!!

IT PROBABLY WILL NOT GET RID OF THE BRUISING, BUT IT WILL HELP BRING THE SWELLING DOWN. THERES NOT ALOT THAT CAN BE DONE FOR THE BRUISING.

Place ice on the bruise to help it heal faster and to reduce swelling. Place the ice in a cloth -- DO NOT place ice directly on the skin. Apply the ice for up to 15 minutes per hour.
Keep the bruised area raised above the heart, if practical. This helps keep blood from pooling in the bruised tissue.
Try to rest the bruised body part by not overworking your muscles in that area.

Put ice on it and explain it as a sports injury.

No matter what you do to it it's going to bruise anyway. Put it in ice then strap it up.

put on some ice, you'll feel your finger will get better.

The current philosophy is to ice an injury for the first 24 hours to reduce the swelling. After that, gentle heat will promote increased blood flow, healing and reduction of bruise color.

noooo... u should massage it with hot water and be careful that ur hand never brusied again

I would guess that you have sprained your finger. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago. With these types of injury your meant to either employ the RICE or hot/cold treatment.

R - Rest
I - Ice
C - Compress
E - Elevate

The hot/cold treatment does exactly what it says on the tin. You apply a cold treatment to your finger followed by a hot treatment followed by a cold treatment and so on.

Bringing out the bruising isn't a bad thing, it means your finger is healing. Your bound to suffer some bruising after your injury but whether putting ice on it will bring out the bruising, well i doubt it.

Someone else has said you cannot be sure it is not broken and that is completely correct. I expect last time you broke the shaft of one of the bones. It is perfectly possible to chip a piece off, or split a bone or do what is known as a avulsion, where a small part of bone attached to a ligament cracks off.
You might also have injured a ligament and you need to do 2 things. 1) first aid and 2) go to the emergency room A&E whatever tomorrow morning for an x-ray and professional opinion.
First aid for you is 3 things. elevate it. Raise it up so that fluid drains away instead of pooling at the injurty site. Cool it down - ice or a bag of frozen peas. And take some antiinflammatory tablets. Ibuprofen, paracetamol or asprin, but read the pack and dont exceed the stated dose.
If elevation is not easy at least put it in some sort of sling so that your hand is up level with the opposite shoulder, resting on your chest.
Forget not wanting to have a bruised finger. You have an injured finger. It may need treatment. It will probably take a bit of time to heal up. But get a medical opinion. If you don't and you have something chipped or cracked, it will not be likely to heal right or quickly of you just put ice on it.

yep apply ice, it will help the swelling. The bruising will just have to go away on its own.
