Post birth seizures?

my daughter is one year old now. she started having seizures soon after she was born. initially it was opined that during membrane rupture or feutus inspection during my wife's labour, baby's head was bruised but that was wrong as after her MRI scan and 3-4 times EEG nothing like that has happened. she has everything perfectly normal. she is now getting one month old but we are still in the hospital. doctor are using trial and error mechanism to pick a right medicine. she was initially put on "Loaded" version of Phenobarbitone for 1.5 weeks. soon after loading she calms down for at least 5 days but she starts again when the levels of phenobarb goes down in her blood. they also tried loaded phenetoin but to no avail. now they are giving carbomezopine, phenobarbitone, perodoxine, folinic acid all together but still its less than 5 days before they started them. anybody has any idea whats going on when baby's tests show that everything is normal and no known cause of seizures? thanks

Some seizures are very hard to locate by EEG. She may grow out of them eventually. But the hard evidence is she is getting them, and finding the right medication for her really is a case of finding the one that works for her.

I am an adult who started life the same way. To this day, we still don't know why. I continued to have smaller seizures throughout my lifetime, you might be able to tell by my writing that I haven't sufferred any permanent damage.

The brain is complex, neurologists think they still only know 10% of everything there is to know about it. Answers aren't always possible. Fortunately, medication and time will help your little angel. Surgery for some works very well to stop the seizures completely, but it's probably way to early to look at going down that path.

Your little girl may very well come through this to live a normal, productive life. Try not to worry too much, but I really understand how hard it is to watch her go through this. If it is of any reassurance, I can promise you from personal experience that seizures are not painful.

My heartfelt best wishes to you all for your future. Hook up with the epilepsy foundation NOW for ongoing, lifetime, support and advice. They are great.
