There is a small lump in my upper lip...?

A few weeks ago my son was throwing a hissy fit in my lap and busted my upper lip with his head. It didnt bleed but it was extremely sore and slightly swollen and bruised. It was difficult to move that part of my lip for a while ( it almost felt like I had just been to the dentist and that part of my lip was numb.) Now I have this weird feeling little lump in the spot where my lip was busted. What is this?? Should I be concerned or will it go away? Its hard feeling and I can only feel it when I squeeze my lip.

It is part of the healing process to an injury of the lip. It's not unusual for it to form a hard knot, and in most cases it will gradually smooth out- depending on your individual healing process. Lips have a large blood and nerve supply, and it likely did a serious number on at least one of them- which is why it feels numb. If the nerve is not too badly damaged, it will repair itself. But that will take some time, nerves can take up to a year in some cases. By squeezing the lip you are triggering response from neighboring nerves that sense pressure, possibly pain. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done for it. As time passes the lump should get smaller or disappear completely, as for the feeling, it's hard to say. Most usually it does improve as well. That's why docs are rather cautious with repairs in the lip area, and usually refer it to a plastics specialist.
