Ingrown toenail? PLEASE ANSWER?

It started out with the feeling of a bruise under my toenail. It hurt so bad its been like 5 months. Now i can see a small nail and on the skin around my nail it is peeling and geting gross. I think it is infected sometimes it is red even purple! I mean i might go to the doctors but is there anything i can do to get rid of this without the doctors?

i feel your pain. i have an ingrown toenail too. i soaked it in the salt and bandaged it and everything, nothing helped. then one day i tried this. everyone says put cotton under when the ingrown part is, i didnt, i put it by the ingrown part and gradually moved it more to the ingrown part. now it is almost directly under it. just take a q tip and take of a tiny piece of cotton, no larger than about the size of the dot on this i, just bigger so it isnt like nothing, mabye a period bolded size 25 on microsoft, then put it under your toe, gradually move it towards the ingrown part every day, and WALA! no more hurt! =) hope this helped!

my brother would pop the infection and pour peroxide on his... he used to get them all the time

I sometimes get these. usually I just pull the out from under the skin and clean it out and cut away the bad/infected part. Until the nail has grown in past that point.

I can tell you what doctors generally do without surgery, and that's shove cotton under the toenail at the edge that's infected (ouch), or I've also heard of them cutting a triangular notch at the top of the middle of the nail, which naturally pushes the sides up. The latter is usually only used if the ingrown nail has just begun, though.

My daughter went through that for years and we finally took her to a doc. They do an inoffice fix and when they are done you will never have the problem again.

Hi, if that is fungus infection, you may try the below treatment options:

1. You can treat the infection by applying topical creams especially made to treat fungal infections. They can be bought over the counter or prescribed by a doctor.

2. You can also take oral medications such as Itraconazole, Fluconazole and Terbinafine. They will help replace infected nails with new and uninfected ones.

3. You can also use natural home remedies such as tea tree oil, vinegar and vicks vaporub.

Hope it helps. :)
