Have you ever been sick but didn't have health insurance? How can I get better faster?

I just recently lost my military benefits when I graduated, and I dont start my new city job until this monday so my new benefits won't be available until a week or two after that. But Im sick right now! :( I feel SO helpless....I had military benefits all my life...now I know what no insurance feels like.

I don't have any money right now, not even emergency money. (tough times, please don't judge!)

My symptoms are kind of respiratory....like shortness of breath and some phlem, mild fever, itchy hot throat (but not sore like strep), clogged sinuses....I have felt this way before when I had bronchitis BUT it was worse then and I had more symptoms like coughing and liquid in my lungs. Im not Miserable yet, but i usually like going to the doctor before it gets miserable!

How do I get better faster!? Any recommendations for OTC medicines? Its hard to sleep at night....and I work my second job this weekend so i need to be tons better by friday night if possible. Thankyou

OK, now look in your phone book for a free clinic. Go there and see a doctor, he will give you a prescription. Sounds like you need some antibotics. Ask him for some free samples, Drug reps leave samples with doctors all the time. Now go online to
www.institutedc.org. It is a little know fact that the parmaceutical companies will give low cost or free medications to people without insurance. so before the free samples run out, download the booklet at www.institutedc.org and scroll down to the drug your doctor prescribes (the doctor at the free clinic) there is a telephone # under the drug. Call that and ask for an application, take it to the doctor at free clinic, and he will sign the application saying you need it. Hand it in and get the medication for low cost or nothing. You need antibotics, not over the counter meds. Call that clinic today. Hope you feel better soon.
And if no free clinics in your home town, check the nearest city.

Sorry u dont feel well but u have some options.. if u have access to a thermometer check your temp..if its over 102 i would go ahead and go to a local ER and they cant turn you away if youre sick..you will get a bill but u can work out a payment plan with the hospital. Dont mess around if you have a high temp, u could have pneumonia or some infection thats only treatable with antibiotics. If ur temp isnt that high and your symptoms get better overnight, try some Tylenol PM which will help you sleep and get a slightly elevated temp down and help relieve some symptoms. Try saline nasal spray for a clogged nose and throat lozenges for a scratchy throat. But pls make sure to go to the ER if you have to... u dont want a treatable respiratory infection get worse and risk losing your new job. Hope u get better soon!

Hi and you are not alone. Here are a couple of things you can do for ins. Apply for state help like a DES office or whatever your state has you can get immediate approval for your situation. Als go to the county Hospital it does'nt cost anyhing until later. If you have a severe head cold Try Alka seltzer works like a charm and for your nose use Ocean Mist nasal spray. It's a saline solution and dries your nose up fast without side effect. Dose up on ypu B vitamins and drink alot of water. Helps me every time I wish you all the best. A Freind.

NyQuil always is a good standby. However, if you are short of breath, not having money is really not important. When you can't breathe, nothing else matters.

For clogged sinuses, Aleve Cold and Sinus works wonders with my sinuses.

Good Luck, take care, Thanks for serving your country in the military and God Bless.
