27 yo f ct scan found tiny nodule in lower left of lung?

history of bronchitis, told that the nodule could be cancer, tumor, scar tissue and to follow up in six months, but i'm petrified this is the sign of lung cancer, otherwise healthy, no history of lung cancer in family, smoked for 8 years, up until last night...what are the chances this is cancer? they didn't give me a size but they said the nodule was tiny, small and didn't raise any flags just to follow up with it, but no real reassurance was given...not sure if am worrying over nothing as they would be more concerned if they thought it was cancer or what is going on, what are the chances this could be cancer, how common are lung nodules in younger patients, and how common is lung cancer in someone my age with a smoking history of 8 years at a pack a day? Please help I'm so scared!!!!!

wow, I'd be totally scared, too. I think because of your age and health history, they are being cautious. I think it might help you to know what to look for in case your situation worsens, otherwise you'd be scared to death every time you get a cold or cough.

something else you might do is learn some relaxation techiniques to help you deal with your anxiety.

My CT scan shows four small nodules. The doctor has been keeping track of their growth every six months with a new CT scan. This has been going on for 2 years now with no change in their size. I too worry that it might be cancer as I used to be very heavy smoker, 3-4 packs a day, for many years. I quit smoking 20 years ago. I just go on living life and if one time the nodules get larger I'm sure the doctor will do something about them. I suppose that since they are so small the risks involved in surgery outweigh the chance they are cancerous.
I also have COPD so continue living your life and moving forward and looking at the positives in your life. Worry does not add one minute to your life and makes you misurable and unhappy. it's not easy but you can do it.

Ask for more tests
If it is cancer, time doesn't help for a cure
Rule cancer out b4 you quit
